Our Medical Weight Loss treatments include the use of Semaglutide, an FDA-approved prescription medication for long-term weight management. Semaglutide is a once-weekly injection that helps promote fat loss when used in combination with diet and exercise. These injections will help decrease your appetite (feel full earlier), reduce your cravings (stay full longer), and improve insulin sensitivity and glycemic (blood glucose) control.
How Does Semaglutide Work?
Who Is A Good Candidate for Semaglutide?
What Are Possible Side Effects?
Semaglutide is a modified molecule (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 or GLP-1) that mimics the hormone made naturally by our bodies. A small change to the molecule allows the drug to last weeks in our bodies, rather than the minutes our natural version lasts for. acts in the following ways:
Targets areas in the brain that regulate appetite and food intake.
Delays how quickly our stomachs digest food, leading to a feeling of fullness and satisfaction with smaller meal sizes.
Slows intestinal mobility and gastric emptying to promote satiety and help you feel fuller for longer after meals.
Lowers blood sugars, in part by reducing the production of sugar in the liver.
Stimulates insulin secretion by the pancreas, thus increasing insulin production and lowering glucagon secretion.
Semaglutide is only administered after reviewing your medical and family history with the completion of a physical exam to determine eligibility. Candidates include:
Adults with a BMI >30 kg/m
Adults with a BMI >27 kg/m with risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidernia.
Prior to using Semaglutide as a weight loss aid, notify your Nurse Practitioner if you have any history of the following:
Diabetes with history of diabetic retinopathy.
Are pregnant, nursing, or plan to become pregnant.
Personal or family history of thyroid cancer, multiple endocrine neoplasia.
Pancreatitis or kidney disease.
Depression, suicidal thoughts, or mental health issues.
Most people tolerate Semaglutide well without significant side effects. Commonly reported side effects include gastrointestinal effects such as abdominal discomfort, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, feeling bloated, acid reflux, and gas. Other side effects may include (but are not limited to) tiredness, dizziness, headache, pancreatitis, and heartburn. Serious side effects increase in patients with hypoglycemia, kidney problems, and risk of allergic reactions.
Semaglutide should not be used:
If you have type 1 diabetes or if you develop ketoacidosis, this medication is not insulin.
If you are taking any other GLP-1 medications.
If you or any of your family members have been diagnosed with Multiple Neoplasia Syndrome Type 2 or Medullary Thyroid Cancer (this medication may increase your risk of Thyroid C-Cell Tumors).
If you have ever had pancreatitis, as this medication can increase the risk of developing pancreatitis.

Several studies have shown significant weight loss for patients on Semaglutide! The largest clinical trial showed an average weight loss of 35 pounds (a 14.9% reduction from initial body weight) for people who used Semaglutide. This was 5 times greater weight loss than those who used diet and exercise alone!
